DEW Construction, in partnership with the Franklin West Supervisory Union and Black River Design Architects, recently broke ground on a significant renovation and expansion project at the Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax, Vermont. This project will modernize the school’s infrastructure with 139,663 square feet of renovations and 17,922 square feet of new additions. The main goals of this project are to improve the facility’s safety, accessibility, and overall functionality, creating a more conducive learning environment for students. The expansion will include new additions to the elementary and middle schools to accommodate the growing student population and provide modern, state-of-the-art learning spaces. Specifically, the elementary wing will gain five new classrooms: two for pre-k students and three for third and fourth graders. Four new classrooms will also be added for middle and high school students. A redesigned entrance will enhance access and security for students, staff, and visitors. Renovations throughout the school will update classrooms, offices, and common areas, including the science wing, band and chorus classrooms, and the cafeteria, enhancing functionality and aesthetics. A new fire safety sprinkler system will provide top-level fire protection. Upgrading lighting, plumbing, and HVAC systems will improve energy efficiency and performance, creating a more comfortable and sustainable environment. Project Update from the Seacoast Residences Project in Kittery, Maine
Within Building #1, drywall installation and painting are progressing. The siding installation is in progress outside, while the MEPFP rough-in is finishing up inside. Interior framing of the first floor of Building #2 and the exterior framing of the fourth floor is in progress. Additionally, we are preparing for window installation. Building #3’s plumbing rough-in is moving along, and the roof installation has begun. The interior framing is wrapping up while the remaining windows are installed. Additionally, the siding installation has started. The roof of the Club House (Building #4) is complete, MEPFP has begun, and the siding installation is in progress. The framing, roofing, and siding have also started for Garages #6 and #9. Despite some unusual winter weather conditions, the Seacoast Residences team is doing an excellent job keeping this 270,000 GSF multi-family housing project on track. Great work, Team!
Project Update – Dartmouth College Library Storage & Records Management Facility
The new Dartmouth College Library Storage and Records Management Facility is progressing beautifully! The time-lapse video below shows the massive amount of work that has been put into place since the project started in June 2022. Within the main storage area, the structural slab has been poured, framing has been completed starting at four feet up, and the hard duct has been installed. The electrical fixtures are currently getting installed, and insulation will begin shortly. Painting of the exposed structural steel (joist and decking) is complete within the processing, loading dock, and office areas, as well as framing and in-wall rough-in for MEP. The above ceiling ductwork and fire protection installation are occurring, and the insulation and drywall will be installed this week, with taping and sanding the following week. DEW Welcomes Home the Tenants at Waterfront Housing
This week marked the completion of the first phase of the Champlain Housing Trust Waterfront Housing Reconstruction project, allowing displaced tenants to return home! Over the past seven months, DEW has remodeled ten units of affordable housing, an office, a storage closet, utility rooms, and a common area on the first level of an occupied four-story building in Burlington, Vermont. DEW welcomed each resident home with a “basket” of pasta-themed goodies as a thank-you for their patience throughout the renovations. The basket contained pasta sauce from Bove’s of Vermont, pasta from Grand Isle Pasta, LLC in Grand Isle, Vermont, and a Hannaford gift card. We also presented Hannaford gift cards to the other 30 residents who have patiently endured all the noise over the last seven months! The project’s next phase will include sprucing up the corridors to the building’s second, third, and fourth floors with new paint, additional LED lighting with motion sensors, and new flooring. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Held at Moran Frame in Burlington, VT
The City of Burlington, Vermont, celebrated the completion of phase one of the revitalization of the former Moran Plant on the City’s waterfront on Tuesday, November 15 – a project that has been in the works for more than 30 years.
