It’s not really possible in the short space to fully explain the value and professionalism that DEW brought to this project. However, every time I return to the site and see the residents in warm, safe, comfortable spaces, I am reminded of how well this project went.

It is with pleasure that I once again write to express appreciation for another excellent project by DEW Construction. Our project at 88 King Street had many challenges: a tight city site, poor soils, complex budgeting and administration and an 11 month schedule to name a few. DEW staff have overcome all of these obstacles, and more too numerous to go into here, with aplomb, and produced a fine building that exceeds expectations in thermal performance and general fit and finish.

Based on our experience at Whitcomb Terrace, Cathedral Square will highly recommend DEW, especially for new developments involving public financing and challenging handicap accessibility requirements. The transparency in how you do business was refreshing; this full disclosure pricing and now games put us on the same side of the table as you removed all speculation from our end on pricing. Admittedly I am on that will chase the number, probably to a fault, to make sure I’m not being taken advantage of, I didn’t need to do that with you guys because It was all above board.

MacMillin’s early involvement with the project as a construction manager was invaluable during the initial programming, planning, and design phases. Their understanding and forward thinking of the different building systems and costs associated with each helped -keep the design team on budget while also meeting the programmatic goals of the owner. Once building construction started, the project team again was superlative demonstrating great skill to accomplish an invasive project while allowing the existing facility to remain operational overcoming budgetary, regulatory, and programmatic challenges throughout the entire process.

During the preconstruction phase MacMillin provided significant value engineering support and worked patiently with Scott-Farrar during a tedious period of development of finance for the project…….. A tight budget, labor challenges with sub-contractors, and engineering design issues were part of the project experience. After construction was complete, one more area of MacMillin dedication to a superior result for the owner was the post-construction punch list completion. The work by Taylor Woodward, the Project Manager has proven to be very important in wringing out the issues of systems integration and attending to all the fine points of fit and finish of the final product. MacMillin also has assigned a quality control specialist to these issues of fit and finish to be certain that the entire building, inside and out, meets the strictest standards of owner expectation.

MacMillin turned a building, who most would have happily torn down, into a celebrated historic landmark that will stand and serve many generations to come. The end result is so jaw dropping to those who knew it before and then toured it tonight. We had a good number of our tenants who will live there tour the building. As you know in any construction project and especially this one (100 year old building) there are many unknowns, twists and turns you need to deal with and adjust for. On bid day we were well over budget. Well, we always are but this was quite a bit more than usual. DEW sat right down with us, said, ‘We are going to make this happen!’, rolled up their sleeves and helped develop creative value engineering items that made the project feasible with minimal compromises to project quality. The project quality was high, the schedule was met, paperwork was good. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with this team again and I would recommend anyone to build their building with this DEW team.
