Riggs Meadow is a new 36-unit affordable housing development in Hinesburg, Vermont, designed to expand access to high-quality, energy-efficient housing. Developed by Champlain Housing Trust and Evernorth, the project combines permanently affordable homes with sustainable features, including an all-electric design and community geothermal heating and cooling system.
Located at the corner of VT Route 116 and Riggs Road, Riggs Meadow includes four multifamily buildings across a 2.77-acre site. Two townhouse-style buildings will contain six and eight units, while two three-story buildings will each include 11 apartments. Together, the development will offer 16 one-bedroom, 16 two-bedroom, and four three-bedroom homes, providing options for individuals and families across a range of income levels.
Sustainability is central to the project. The all-electric development will use a community geothermal system for heating and cooling and will be constructed solar-ready. The buildings are also designed to meet Efficiency Vermont’s High-Performance Track and ENERGY STAR standards. Site improvements include new parking, walkways, an entrance road, stormwater management infrastructure, and connections to municipal water and sewer.
Riggs Meadow is the first phase of a larger, multi-phase neighborhood envisioned for the surrounding 46-acre property. Future plans include additional affordable and market-rate homeownership opportunities, a childcare center, and walking trails.
By bringing together permanently affordable housing, energy-efficient design, and thoughtful community planning, Riggs Meadow will create new opportunities for people to call Hinesburg home while laying the groundwork for a growing neighborhood.
