At DEW Construction, developing exceptional builders requires hands-on experience, mentorship, and a firsthand understanding of how successful projects come together in the field. To support the growth of the next generation of construction professionals, DEW recently launched the first session of its new Project Engineer Constructability Training Program. This hands-on initiative is designed to help Project Engineers develop a deeper understanding of field operations, strengthen technical expertise, and build the practical skills needed to lead successful projects throughout their careers. The inaugural training session took place at Charlotte Central School in Charlotte, Vermont, where participants had the opportunity to step away from their desks and into an active construction environment. The day began with a walkthrough of the project, highlighting the various phases of work DEW has completed at the school over the years and providing valuable context for the day’s work. Participants then reviewed window replacement details, manufacturer installation requirements, and weather barrier systems before taking part in a pre-installation meeting. Together, they discussed the planning, coordination, sequencing, and quality standards required to successfully complete the work before heading into the field to put those lessons into practice. The hands-on portion of the training focused on removing existing windows, preparing openings, installing weather-resistant barriers, setting new windows, and completing flashing details in accordance with manufacturer recommendations. By performing the work themselves, participants gained firsthand insight into the craftsmanship, precision, […]

Building the Next Generation of Builders: DEW Construction and the Vermont Construction Academy
Recently, students participating in the Vermont Construction Academy‘s July Carpentry Boot Camp visited DEW Construction’s North Hero Fire & Town Garage project to experience construction firsthand and learn about opportunities in the skilled trades. Hosted by DEW’s project team, the visit gave students the opportunity to tour an active construction site, meet with DEW employees and trade partners, and gain a behind-the-scenes look at how a project comes together. More importantly, the experience helped connect classroom learning to real-world construction. By seeing an active project in progress, students gained exposure to the people, processes, and jobsite conditions that shape a career in the trades—insight that’s difficult to replicate in a classroom environment. For DEW, opportunities like these are an important part of building the next generation of builders. Through partnerships with organizations like the Vermont Construction Academy, students can explore rewarding career paths, better understand the realities of the industry, and see firsthand the opportunities available to those willing to learn and grow. “Building the next generation of builders starts by giving students the opportunity to experience construction firsthand,” said Matt Cadieux, General Superintendent. “When students step onto an active jobsite, they can see how classroom learning translates into the real world, explore the opportunities available in the trades, and begin to envision a future for themselves in our industry. As construction professionals, it’s our responsibility to open doors, share […]

Growing Talent at DEW: Internship Experiences in Action
DEW Construction’s internship program continues to play an important role in how we develop talent and support long-term growth across our teams. By providing hands-on experience in the field and exposure to day-to-day project operations, the program creates meaningful opportunities for students to learn, contribute, and explore careers in construction. Two recent examples highlight the impact of this approach—Rosey Thompson’s transition into a full-time role and Joseph Musumarra’s return for a second summer with DEW. Last summer, Rosey joined DEW as an intern while completing her degree in Psychology with a minor in Plant Biology at the University of Vermont. During her time with the team, she gained hands-on field experience on our Bay Ridge Apartments project in Shelburne, Vermont, and developed a strong understanding of how DEW projects are delivered. Following her graduation, Rosey has joined DEW full-time as a Project Engineer based out of our Williston, Vermont office. Her transition reflects the kind of growth and opportunity our internship program is designed to support. We’re also pleased to welcome back Joseph Musumarra for another summer with DEW. A Construction Management student at Vermont State University – Randolph, Joseph is supporting our MAREK North project in Lebanon, New Hampshire, where he continues to build on his field experience and gain exposure to project coordination and daily operations. We’re proud to congratulate Rosey on her graduation and new role, and […]
Mental Health Awareness Month: Building a Stronger, Safer Industry Together
As May comes to a close, DEW Construction recognizes Mental Health Awareness Month—a reminder that mental well-being is essential to the strength, safety, and success of our industry. At DEW, this is not just a moment on the calendar. Mental health is part of our daily reality—on our jobsites, in our offices, and in the way we support one another. Creating an environment where employees feel respected, supported, and comfortable asking for help is fundamental to how we work and how we succeed as a team. Why Mental Health Matters in Construction Construction is demanding work. Tight schedules, physically challenging environments, long hours, and the responsibility of maintaining safety—for ourselves and others—can take a toll over time. Across the industry, higher rates of stress, burnout, substance use, and other mental health challenges are well documented. Too often, these struggles go unrecognized or unspoken. At DEW, we believe that prioritizing mental health is not a sign of weakness—it is a reflection of strength, resilience, and a commitment to looking out for one another. Just as physical safety is a core priority, mental well-being must also be part of the conversation to ensure our employees go home healthy each day. Our Commitment DEW Construction is committed to fostering a workplace culture where: Employees feel supported and respected Conversations around mental health are normalized Early warning signs are recognized and addressed Stigma is […]
