DEW Breaks Ground on Hotel Jay & Waterpark
July 7, 2010 – DEW Construction Corp. & Jay Peak Resort officially broke ground on the new Hotel Jay complex. The project includes a 270,000 sq. foot hotel facility with 170 suites, a 60,000 sq. foot indoor waterpark with retractable roof, a conference center, spa facility and numerous restaurant and retail shops. The project is slated for completion in 2012. Black River Design is the Architect.
DEW’s Aiken Hall Project Receives LEED Gold Certification
Burlington, VT – Champlain College celebrated it’s first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified building, Wednesday, October 21 at Aiken Hall at Champlain College. This is the College’s and DEW’s first Gold Rating for new construction. Aiken Hall is the 5th Project in Vermont to achieve a LEED Gold rating. A few features that contributed to Aiken’s LEED certification include: Energy Efficient lighting, heating and elevator installation, Improved building envelope through insulation upgrades, Salvaged hard-wood floors and re-use of many original building materials, Slat roof shingles and the selection of other regional building materials, Construction waste diverted from landfill and often donated to Re-Cycle North, Access to alternative transportation options such as CCTA buses and CareShare Vermont. DEW’s 2nd “certified” project, Aiken, was built in 1885 and 100 percent renovated in 2008 to serve as the home of Champlain College’s CORE education department, with faculty offices, meeting rooms and special event facilities. Designed in the Queen-Anne Style, the three-story wood framed and masonry building was originally a residence, and converted to a dormitory in the 1980s. Aiken Hall is a historic building, listed on the Vermont Historic Sites Register and is a significant symbol of the historic “Hill Section” neighborhood developed from the 1870’s to the early 1900’s in Burlington. DEW currently has 9 LEED registered projects pending certification.
DEW Breaks Ground on Jay Peak Ice Arena
Jay, Vermont – Officials from DEW Construction Corp. and Jay Peak Resort held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 for the new 28,000 square foot NHL regulation Ice Arena. The new facility will have seating for 750, a snack bar, a skate rental and sharpening shop and four locker rooms. Guests of Honor included Governor Jim Douglas, State Representatives and officials from both Jay Peak Resort and DEW Construction Corp. The project is slated to be complete in mid April 2010. Greg Leech is the DEW Project Manager and Larry Bertrand is the Superintendent. The architect is Black River Design.
DEW Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Williston, VT – DEW Construction Corp. held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and Open House for its newly constructed LEED Registered Corporate Headquarters on September 18, 2008. “We’re happy to introduce our state-of-the-art green facility to both the public and those who helped bring this project to fruition,” said Don Wells, President. “DEW is proud to be the first Williston office building that is environmentally responsible and a healthy place to work.” Governor Jim Douglas was on hand to assist in the ribbon cutting. “We are delighted Governor Douglas joined our celebration. Our dream of constructing this facility was made possible in part by Governor Douglas and his support of all Vermont businesses,” said Don Wells, President. Williston Town Manager, Rick Maguire, also spoke briefly at the ceremony, congratulating DEW and thanking them for keeping their business in Williston. DEW’s portion of the 28,500 square foot building, (15,900 square feet) provides offices for a staff of 40, three conference rooms with Smart Technology, an interactive television in the lobby, and a 1300 square foot fitness center with locker rooms. Also located in the lower level is a large function room to facilitate company events and meetings.
