DEW Recipient of AGC/VT Best Builder Award
DEW is pleased to announce that our Burr and Burton Academy Founders Hall project in Manchester, Vermont, was recognized for a second time last night with an Associated General Contractors of Vermont 2022 Best Builder Award! Congratulations to our team at DEW, Burr and Burton Academy, KaTO, and ZGF Architects, as well as all of the engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers, who helped design and construct this artistic marvel! Burr and Burton Academy envisioned a building that would support its 21st-century educational goals while honoring the historic architecture on campus. The entire team worked collaboratively throughout the project in order to capture the essence of the Academy’s vision and honor the investment made by the late Barry and Wendy Rowland. The outcome is an artistic masterpiece that will last for generations. Founders Hall is a building that the Burr and Burton community, the Rowland Family, DEW, the design team, and all the subcontractors, engineers, and suppliers can truly be proud of. What drives DEW is the opportunity to build something beautiful while also helping to realize the dreams of our customers and the architects who design their buildings. Unique projects like Founders Hall push the limits of “normal” construction and, as a result, make constructing them very rewarding! Senior Project Manager Tim Heinlein Speaks at the NESEA Pro Tour in the White Mountains
On Friday, October 21, Senior Project Manager Tim Heinlein joined NESEA – Northeast Sustainable Energy Association for a Pro Tour in the White Mountains highlighting one of our projects, the Dartmouth College Moosilauke Ravine Lodge. The Lodge is a newly constructed 11,553-square-foot high-performance institutional building that combines the traditional character of a custom mountain lodge with ambitious performance goals. The tour provided attendees with information about the Lodge’s design, materials, and state-of-the-art mechanical systems. Tim Heinlein joined Maclay Architects and others from the project team in speaking about balancing the project’s vision while maximizing building performance, minimizing site environmental impacts, and meeting Dartmouth College’s priority of preserving the character of the original Lodge. This award-winning building is architecturally stunning and was built using an innovative hybrid log and timber frame structure. It integrates actual debarked trees up to 2-1/2 stories tall and numerous large boulders to offer a rustic feel, yet protected by a heavily insulated building envelope to achieve ambitious sustainability goals. A big thank you to NESEA Pro Tours, Dartmouth College for hosting, and Maclay Architects for organizing the event.
The Town of Woodstock, VT, Hosts Open House and Dedication Ceremony for the Philip B. Swanson Emergency Services Building
DEW attended the dedication and open house of the Philip B. Swanson Emergency Services Building in Woodstock, Vermont, on Saturday, October 22, 2022. This two-phase renovation and expansion project included modifications totaling 9,024 square feet and an expansion totaling 8,865 square feet to the existing emergency services building. The first phase included an 8,865-square-foot apparatus bay expansion at the back of the original building, with the second story of the addition adding firefighter sleeping quarters, bathroom facilities, living space, and a kitchen. Following the completion of the first phase, the Emergency Service facility personnel were relocated to the new space, leaving the existing building vacant and available for redevelopment. The second phase involved renovating the existing police and fire station areas to expand the office space into the garage and build a detention room and evidence storage space. A new entryway with a covered walkway was also added, as well as a minor expansion to showcase a historic/antique fire truck through large storefront windows. The building remained fully operational throughout the duration of the project. At the open house on Saturday, the facility was dedicated to Philip B. Swanson, former Municipal Manager of Woodstock from 1985 to 2019 and a volunteer firefighter. Before his death in 2019, Philip was an active and dedicated part of the Woodstock community. It was a pleasure to collaborate with the Town of Woodstock, Vermont, […]
