DEW Construction is proud to share that Josh Deutsch, Project Engineer, was awarded Best in Show at the 2026 AIA Vermont Furniture Design Competition, “Flip the Switch,” held this past weekend at the Montgomery Center for the Arts. This year’s competition challenged designers to create a free-standing illuminating device using predominantly reclaimed, reused, or recycled materials. Entries were juried on Creativity, Innovation, Aesthetics, and Functionality, bringing together Vermont’s architecture and design community in a celebration of craftsmanship and sustainability. The exhibit is open weekends through June 28. A Design Rooted in Reuse and Local Context Josh’s winning piece stood out for its thoughtful storytelling, craftsmanship, and strong connection to place. His pier-inspired lamp reimagines salvaged construction materials through the lens of Burlington’s working waterfront: Constructed from reclaimed timber posts and bound with marine rope, the piece draws directly from materials collected during a recent hotel renovation in Burlington, Vermont. Echoing the weathered character of dock pilings, the design integrates a soft internal illumination that brings warmth and new life to elements once destined for disposal. The exposed bulb, framed within stacked wooden forms, highlights both the raw textures and the story of reuse—transforming construction remnants into a functional, sculptural object that bridges industrial history with contemporary design. DEW Construction Named #1 Best Place to Work in Vermont for 2026
DEW Construction has been named the #1 Best Place to Work in Vermont for 2026 by Vermont Business Magazine and the Vermont Chamber of Commerce. This achievement marks a major milestone for our team—our ninth consecutive year being recognized as a Best Place to Work in Vermont and our first time earning the #1 ranking in our category. What makes this recognition especially meaningful is how it’s earned. The program is driven primarily by confidential employee feedback, reflecting how our people experience DEW every day—our culture, leadership, trust, teamwork, and opportunities for growth. Built Intentionally, Year After Year Being named the #1 Best Place to Work isn’t the result of a single initiative or a single year. It’s the outcome of consistent, intentional effort over time—led by people across our organization who care deeply about how we work and who we work alongside. At DEW, award‑winning culture and award‑winning projects are built the same way: intentionally, collaboratively, and with uncompromising standards. Our people are trusted to lead, supported to grow, and empowered to do their best work—and that approach strengthens everything we do, from how we work together internally to how we deliver for our clients and partners. This work is grounded in our core values of Optimism, Initiative, and Accountability, which guide how we show up every day—on our jobsites, in our offices, and in how we support one […]
