DEW Construction Corp. was selected by town representatives in Brattleboro, VT to serve as the Construction Manager for the renovations and additions to Police/Fire Facilities. This project consists of approximately 12,200 sf of renovations and a 12,000 sf addition at the Central Fire Station; 1,600 sf of renovations and a 1,900 sf addition at Fire Station #2 in West Brattleboro; and 5,200 sf of renovations and a 10,400 sf addition to the Municipal Center for the Police Department. Project Value: $14.1 million Project Schedule: Preconstruction will start immediately with construction slated to begin spring 2014.

Twin Valley Middle/High School Breaks Ground
Whitingham, VT -A Groundbreaking Ceremony was held on August 2, 2013 for the new consolidated Twin Valley Middle/High School. Senator Peter Galbraith joined members of the School Board, the Building Team and students for the event, commenting, “One of our goals is to encourage consolidation,” noting that it would improve costs to the community and the quality of education. “Nothing is more important than investing in our young people.” said Galbraith. The site of the new school is the former Whitingham Elementary School and Twin Valley Middle School. Upon completion, the facility will house middle and high school students from both Whitingham and Wilmington. Renovations will be made throughout the existing school. A performance center (auditorium, music, media arts) will be located in the existing gym and a new industrial arts and family consumer room will be located in an adjacent building. The project also includes a new 22,245 SF addition containing a gym, locker rooms, administrative wing with offices, guidance area and a health care office. Extensive site work includes improvements to parking, roads and athletic fields. DEW and Green Mountain Electric Supply Break Ground.
Work begins on new distribution facility. Colchester, VT – A Groundbreaking Ceremony was held on August 1, 2013 for a metal building facility that will house a Distribution Center for GMS Realty, LLP and will be a new home to Green Mountain Electric Supply. The new facility will total approximately 37,000 SF, and is located off Rathe Road in Colchester, VT. The main footprint is approximately 90’ x 335’ and the remaining area is on a mezzanine level. The Distribution Center includes offices, product showroom, office support, warehouse and 10,000sf of leasable space. The architect is Mark Stewart of MGS Architects of Newport, VT and the project manager is Matt Wheaton of DEW Construction Corp., the Construction Manager for the project. The project is expected to be completed by the spring of 2014.
DEW Breaks Ground on Barre City Place
Barre, Vt. – DEW Construction Corp. recently broke ground on Barre City Place, kicking off the start of what some say is the next stage of the city’s remarkable renaissance. Barre City Place will be a four-story, 80,000-square-foot mixed-use building on Main Street in downtown Barre. DEW Properties, LLC will own the building and is the lead developer on the project. A subsidiary of the company, DEW Barre City Place, LLC, will maintain the property. Many local dignitaries attended the groundbreaking ceremony on January 30, including Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin, Barre Mayor Thom Lauzon, and City Manager Steven Mackenzie. Governor Shumlin said Barre City Place is a model for future city renovation projects across the country. Barre City Place has pre-construction commitments from major tenants. The RehabGYM, a physical rehabilitation facility, will occupy part of the first floor. Vermont’s Department of Education and its nearly 200 employees will occupy the building’s top floor. Fifty employees of the Agency of Human Services will split the second and third floors with Central Vermont Medical Center, which will have administrative offices for approximately 45 employees. DEW’s president Don Wells says he is hopeful a push to create a cooperatively owned grocery store will be successful and occupy space on the first floor. DEW Construction Receives Regional Award
DEW Construction recently won Engineering News Record’s 2012 Best Projects competition in the retail/hospitality category for the New York region, which includes New York, New Jersey, and New England. The award ceremony was held at ENR headquarters on November 13 in New York City. DEW won the award for their work as construction manager for Hotel Jay and Pump House Waterpark at Jay Peak Resort in Jay, Vt. “DEW couldn’t be more pleased to have the Hotel Jay and Pump House Waterpark recognized as one of the best 2012 projects in New England. The project is unique and involved a real team collaboration where everybody involved pulled their weight. It is a great accomplishment,” says Don Wells, president of DEW. ENR is a national trade magazine published weekly by McGraw Hill and is a publication widely read by the construction industry. ENR’s Best Projects competition invites companies to submit summaries of their top construction projects, which must meet a list of criteria, including the obstacles faced during design or construction and how these challenges were managed. Companies were required to describe innovation and creativity and provide details about how their projects helped elevate industry standards.
