DEW’s SHARP (Safety, Health and Resource Protection) Team developed the Safety Merit Award to recognize an individual or company who understands the importance of safety on our job sites. We are pleased to announce that Dolor Smith with our subcontractor Kal-Vin at Jay Peak is this year’s recipient. Dolor was nominated by DEW Superintendent Dave Lothian. “Dolor is Kal-Vin’s safety coordinator here at Jay. Without his help over the past 12 months I do not believe our overall safety performance would be as good. He has always been very quick to respond to safety issues and always followed up on any discipline that was needed.” Ben Spaulding, DEW’s Safety Coordinator at Jay Peak worked closely with Dolor and confirmed that he was an essential component in the overall safety excellence at Jay Peak. Dolor, a devoted father of three children, lives in Auburn, Maine and made the weekly 175 mile trek to Jay Peak in all weather conditions. The SHARP Team has added Dolor’s name to the Merit Award plaque and he has received $100 cash.

Bennington Project Toy Drive a Big Success!
The Toys for Tots drive was a success for our crew down at Bennington State Office Building project. The overall generosity of the men on the job and the people who work at the Bennington Court House and State Offices was nothing short of amazing. In addition to the donated toys (not all of them are pictured above – there were several more boxes!) they collected several hundred dollars to buy toys. (Bought on a memorable trip by DEW employees Kevin Lafaso and Jim Caulin.) In celebration, the Bennington crew held their holiday party at Bennington Lanes and two happy employees, Jim Caulin on the left and Mike Deshais at right, won the first ever Bennington Toys for Tots Gala Bowl-A-Thon trophy. Thanks to the good will and Christmas spirit shown by our employees and many others in these hard times, some less fortunate children will have something to unwrap that may bring a little joy into their lives this Christmas. Special thanks to Peter Hack and Zollie Horvath for helping make this collection a success along with the DEW Bennington job site crew.
DEW Food Drive a Success!
DEW’s first food drive for the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf was a success. We delivered four boxes along with a cash donation from DEW to the food shelf last week. Things were quite busy there and they were very thankful to receive the food just before the holiday. Special thanks to everyone who donated. DEW plans to make this annual event!
Redstone Lofts Project “Tops Out”
Superintendent Larry Bertrand reports that his project, UVM Redstone Lofts, recently celebrated the “Topping Out” of their project. In building construction, “topping out” is a ceremony held when the last beam is placed at the top of a building. The tradition migrated to America from European craftsmen and is usually marked by placing a tree on the topmost beam. Congratulations to the team!
DEW Food Drive
DEW is having a Food Drive to help our neighbors who are hungry. Please drop-off any non-perishable food items to our main office by November 23rd, at which time they will be donated to the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf. If you have any questions, please contact Andrea Cronan, Marketing Manager.
