Ribbon Cutting Held for Bennington State Office Building
DEW Construction Corp. and State Officials recently celebrated the official opening of the New Vermont Superior Court and Bennington State Office Building. The construction project included demolition and reconstruction of an older section of the former structure built in 1978, and gutting the inside of a newer addition, constructed in 1992, and rebuilding the inside. The result, according to Governor Peter Shumlin, is “the greenest, cleanest, best building in the state that finally gives a workspace to our hardworking state employees that delivers services to our most needy Vermonters.” Several state offices including the Vermont Superior Court, Bennington County’s State Attorney’s office, Department of Corrections, Agency of Human Services and the Department of Labor have moved into the new building. According to Maclay Architects, the architect for the project, a geothermal heating system, air-source heat pumps, new windows, and greatly increased insulation values are among the energy-saving systems used. A silver LEED rating is anticipated for the building.
