DEW Awarded AGC-VT Best Builders Award
The Associated General Contractors of Vermont awarded DEW Construction Corp. with a Best Builders Award for the University of Vermont Redstone Lofts project. The award for outstanding quality of work and effort in the New, Building category was announced at the Associated General Contractors Annual Meeting held at the Sheraton Hotel & Conference Center in Burlington, VT. DEW was hired in 2012 as Construction Manager by Redstone Development to build a 169,000 SF, 403 bed, multi-story, multi building apartment complex on the University of Vermont (UVM) campus. The new apartments, which operate independently of the University and are technically “off campus”, are owned and managed by Redstone Commercial Group who leases the 144 units to UVM upperclassmen and graduate students. Youkel Architects designed the buildings in two main wings, each with a subtle curve that minimizes the mass from the exterior. The point where the wings meet known as “The Lantern,” is glass-walled and includes the common space. The face of Redstone Lofts is a blend of black brick accented with blue, yellow, and white panels for a look that is contemporary and retro. Both buildings contain open on grade parking underneath. The project also received a LEED Silver designation. LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the nationally accepted standard and rating system for high performance (green) buildings developed by the U.S. Green Building Council. Congratulations to the […]
Hoff Hall Achieves LEED™ Gold Certification
DEW Construction Corp. is pleased to announce that our Castleton State College Hoff Hall project received a gold rating certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™). Hoff Hall includes a 28.8 kW rooftop solar array (120 panels) along with four new rooftop micro-wind turbines, installed after construction. These specific micro-wind turbines are the only wind turbines designed to coexist with solar energy. Wind and solar generation are considered complementary renewable generation sources. Both are connected to the cloud based software system that presents real-time power generation data in the lobby of Hoff Hall – so students can view the energy usage and generation. LEED™ is the nationally accepted standard and rating system for high performance (green) buildings developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.
