Elizabeth Stillwell, Risk Management Manager was recently named the Risk Management Professional of the Year for Region 1 by the International Association of Insurance Professionals (IAIP). Region 1 includes the New England states, New York and Pennsylvania, and its conference was held last week in Essex, Vermont. The award is given at the local, regional, and national level annually to recognize an IAIP member who has demonstrated superior knowledge in their field and professional advancement through educational pursuits. As the regional award recipient Elizabeth’s application will be considered on the international level at the Annual Convention to be held June 5-7, 2014 in San Diego.

Keene State Intern at Cheshire County Courthouse Construction Site
Hayley Kenyon, a Keene State College senior, has spent the past three months working as an intern at the construction site for the new Cheshire County Courthouse in Keene, NH. She spent two mornings a week on site, working alongside Rick Bushway, MacMillin’s Superintendent. Kenyon and Bushway made brief but regular visits to MacMillin’s headquarters, and recently we had the opportunity to ask some questions. Name: Hayley Kenyon Hometown: Exeter, RI Keene State College Coursework: Candidate for Bachelor of Science in Architecture, 2014. What made you decide to do an internship at a construction site? I took two courses in construction management during my junior year and my teacher suggested that he could help me find an internship. I wanted to connect what I was learning in the classroom to real-life experience and knew I had to take advantage of the opportunity. I was given a choice of working on-site at the Courthouse or with a group still in the planning and preconstruction phase and chose the Courthouse even though I knew it would mean some cold mornings. What did you think you might learn? In my commercial construction classes we studied architectural drawings and how they are translated by the trades on-site. John Edwards, Project Manager: John Edwards has joined the company as Project Manager. Edwards brings over nineteen years of construction experience to the firm, having managed a diverse range of projects including the new Brattleboro Food Co-op Plaza and the historic Bixby Memorial Library in Francestown, NH. Edwards is currently managing the construction of the new branch of Mascoma Savings Bank in Hartford, VT. Edwards holds Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Engineering from Clarkson University, is a registered professional engineer in the states of VT and MA, and is certified in Healthcare Construction. Steve Hart, Project Manager: Steve Hart has joined the company as Project Manager. Hart brings over 30 years of construction experience in estimating, superintendence and project management, working with clients including the Windham and Windsor Housing Trust in Brattleboro, VT and Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, NH. He is currently completing renovation projects for the Putney School in Putney, VT. Hart holds a degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology and served in the U.S. Marine Corp. MacMillin Promotes Hoeppner and Madden
The MacMillin Company is pleased to announce the promotion of Ken Hoeppner to Vice President and the promotion of Nathan Madden to Project Engineer. Hoeppner joins the senior management team of MacMillin’s parent company, DEW Construction. Madden joins the project team managing the construction of the new Cheshire County Courthouse in Keene. Mr. Hoeppner will be responsible for managing MacMillin’s Keene headquarters. Currently, Hoeppner is applying his more than 30 years’ experience in construction management to business development efforts in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Hoeppner has worked as a project manager on numerous projects including Stowe Mountain Resort in Stowe, VT. Under Hoeppner’s leadership, MacMillin has been awarded several projects including a medical library for Dartmouth College, and a renovation of the Franklin Library. Mr. Madden brings several years of field experience to his position.
