On Wednesday, December 04, 2024, DEW Construction proudly accepted the AGC Vermont Best Builder Award for the Williston Public Safety Facility project. This recognition, in the Green Innovation & Sustainability Building, New Construction category, celebrates our team’s dedication to creating a cutting-edge facility that combines modern infrastructure with sustainable practices, all while serving the critical needs of Vermont’s law enforcement. The Williston Public Safety Facility, located on 51 acres in Williston, Vermont, is the largest state police barracks in Vermont and houses one of the state’s two Emergency Communications Centers. This state-of-the-art building, spanning 22,561 square feet, serves as the hub for multiple Vermont State Police divisions, including the Traffic Safety Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Recreational Enforcement Division, the Field Force Uniform Division, the Department of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement, and the Northern Vermont Drug Task Force. The facility’s 11,022-square-foot climate-controlled garage provides secure storage for special team vehicles and supports maintenance and utility functions. The facility exceeds Vermont’s energy code standards with advanced energy-efficient systems like a 42-well geothermal heating and cooling system, robust insulation and tight air sealing. It also incorporates a comprehensive stormwater management system, reducing environmental impact. These efforts contribute to a building designed to operate at peak efficiency while minimizing its carbon footprint. The project came with its own set of challenges. Harsh winter conditions and a complex mechanical system required innovative solutions, such […]

Hoff Hall Achieves LEED™ Gold Certification
DEW Construction Corp. is pleased to announce that our Castleton State College Hoff Hall project received a gold rating certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™). Hoff Hall includes a 28.8 kW rooftop solar array (120 panels) along with four new rooftop micro-wind turbines, installed after construction. These specific micro-wind turbines are the only wind turbines designed to coexist with solar energy. Wind and solar generation are considered complementary renewable generation sources. Both are connected to the cloud based software system that presents real-time power generation data in the lobby of Hoff Hall – so students can view the energy usage and generation. LEED™ is the nationally accepted standard and rating system for high performance (green) buildings developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.
DEW Breaks Ground on 802 Toyota Project
Work begins on new Toyota Dealership. Berlin, VT – Officials from DEW Construction Corp and 802 Toyota broke ground May 10th on a brand-new, $4.8 million, 32,000 square foot 802 Toyota Scion dealership. The existing Courtesy Toyota building was demolished and construction has started on the 802 facility. In the meantime, 802 Toyota Sales, Service and Parts is temporarily located in its previous used car building on Berlin Mall Road, next to Twin City Subaru. The new dealership will include a show room, sales area, offices and a service center with a covered service drive, where customers can drive their car in for service. This new facility is a green initiative for 802, focusing on creating a building that is both environmentally friendly and self-sufficient. DEW Construction Corp. will recycle roughly 70 percent of the former building; the materials won’t be used in the new building, but they are being salvaged and harvested to avoid dumping materials into a landfill. Other “green” plans for 802’s new facility include a rainwater harvesting system, where they will harvest rainwater that flows naturally off of the roof to wash cars with and “waste oil recycling”, where 802 can recycle oil from vehicles and use it to heat the building. “We’re also trying to be electricity neutral,” Birmingham explains. “We’re installing solar panels on the roof and hope to be completely self-sufficient on electricity.” DEW Construction Corp.
