Last Friday marked a special occasion for DEW Construction as we gathered with subcontractors at the Bow Elementary School project in Bow, NH, to celebrate a significant milestone: receiving our certificate of occupancy for the first phase of renovations. It was a moment to recognize and appreciate everyone’s hard work and dedication that has brought us to this point. As staff and students return this week, they are greeted by newly renovated spaces that promise to enhance their learning environment. The excitement is palpable as they begin to utilize these updated facilities. Currently, we’re in the final stages of completing a 12,850-square-foot addition, scheduled to be handed over to the school in the coming weeks. Looking ahead, our focus shifts to the second phase of renovations, set to commence in mid-September. This phase will involve several critical upgrades, including the installation of acoustical ceilings to improve sound quality, updates to lighting systems, enhancements to fire protection and alarm systems, and various cosmetic improvements. These renovations will be carried out while the school remains in session, utilizing the new addition as a swing space to minimize disruptions. We extend a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated team, all the subcontractors involved, and our partners at H.L. Turner Group for their outstanding contributions throughout this project. Your commitment to excellence has been truly commendable. Special recognition also goes to Smokeshow Barbecue of Concord […]

Project Update – Dartmouth College Library Storage & Records Management Facility
The new Dartmouth College Library Storage and Records Management Facility is progressing beautifully! The time-lapse video below shows the massive amount of work that has been put into place since the project started in June 2022. Within the main storage area, the structural slab has been poured, framing has been completed starting at four feet up, and the hard duct has been installed. The electrical fixtures are currently getting installed, and insulation will begin shortly. Painting of the exposed structural steel (joist and decking) is complete within the processing, loading dock, and office areas, as well as framing and in-wall rough-in for MEP. The above ceiling ductwork and fire protection installation are occurring, and the insulation and drywall will be installed this week, with taping and sanding the following week. This 20,000 sf building will be completed in the summer of 2023 and will provide book storage for Dartmouth Libraries and house the Records Management Office. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zn6Do0X7pA
DEW Welcomes Home the Tenants at Waterfront Housing
This week marked the completion of the first phase of the Champlain Housing Trust Waterfront Housing Reconstruction project, allowing displaced tenants to return home! Over the past seven months, DEW has remodeled ten units of affordable housing, an office, a storage closet, utility rooms, and a common area on the first level of an occupied four-story building in Burlington, Vermont. DEW welcomed each resident home with a “basket” of pasta-themed goodies as a thank-you for their patience throughout the renovations. The basket contained pasta sauce from Bove’s of Vermont, pasta from Grand Isle Pasta, LLC in Grand Isle, Vermont, and a Hannaford gift card. We also presented Hannaford gift cards to the other 30 residents who have patiently endured all the noise over the last seven months! The project’s next phase will include sprucing up the corridors to the building’s second, third, and fourth floors with new paint, additional LED lighting with motion sensors, and new flooring. At DEW, we offer construction services customized to address the wide array of housing needs in the communities in which we live, work and play. Whether you’re a nonprofit interested in community housing development or a business that provides senior living opportunities, a partnership with DEW will ensure the delivery of your project from vision to reality.
The Kimball Union Academy Barn Relocation Project in Meriden, NH, is Wrapping Up!
The Kimball Union Academy Barn Relocation project in Meriden, NH, is wrapping up! Phase one of this two-phase project included dismantling the existing 1800s barn to salvage its beautiful timber frame. The project’s second phase included moving the 1,400-square-foot timber frame down the hill near the school playing fields to a new foundation, covering it with structural insulated panels (SIP’s), and completing the core and shell. Future phases will involve restoring the interior portion of the barn to house the post office and locker rooms for the Academy. DEW’s own field forces completed 50% of this project, including reassembling the historic timber frame and installing the roof and the siding. Founded in 1813, Kimball Union Academy (KUA) is one of the oldest boarding schools in the nation. The “Kimball Barn,” also known as “Daniel Kimball’s Sheep Barn,” was donated by the late Daniel and Hannah Kimball, who used it as a milk cattle and hay barn in the late 1800s. In 1815, Daniel Kimball gifted KUA six thousand dollars and promised the school the larger portion of his property at the time of his death. After the death of her husband, Daniel, Hannah continued to take an active interest in the Academy for many years. She also played a crucial role in establishing the KUA Female Department in 1840. Over the years, KUA has used the barn for various purposes. […]
