The North Country Career Center construction site has been officially accepted into the OSHA ‘Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program’ (SHARP). This prestigious award is a result of the high quality stewardship of DEW Construction Corp, who is building this $18 million dollar renovation and expansion project at the Newport site. “I am very proud of the excellent safety standards that DEW and all the subcontractors have set for this project,” commented Bob Fitts, the director of the North Country Career Center. “As a result of this commitment to safety, the students and staff have not lost any instructional time while the construction has moved forward in a most efficient way.” SHARP is a recognition program for high-hazard businesses that operate exemplary safety and health programs. DEW Construction Corp was the first contractor in the United States to receive this level of certification for its safety practices and record. “Since the project began in April 2007, we have had a perfect safety record,” reports Todd Poirier, DEW’s site superintendent, adding, “The essence of this award speaks to the quality of the 22 subcontractors who are working here every day for the benefit of the community.” Poirier explained that on any given day there are 80 to 100 workers on site, adding that the project is on track for its scheduled October 2008 completion date. DEW Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary
Williston– On April 11, 2007, DEW Construction Corp.celebrated its 10th Year as a company in Vermont. Donald Wells started the company in 1997 with five employees; it has grown to over 135 employees, and become one of the largest construction companies in the region. In April 2004, DEW Construction became the first contractor in the United States to be awarded Safety, Health and Achievement Recognition Program honors by Federal OSHA, with sponsorship from Vermont’s Project WorkSafe. The SHARP program recognizes small businesses with exemplary safety and health programs. In 2005, the company was recognized for their extensive safety program once again with the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Workplace Safety for a Large Employer. In 2007, 2005 and 2004, DEW was the recipient of the annual 5x5x5 Award recognizing the five fastest growing Vermont-based businesses over the last five years in five industrial sectors: construction, food, technology, service/retail, and manufacturing, as reported by Vermont Business Magazine’s Vermont 100 list of companies ranked by sales, which runs in its January issue.
