On Friday, October 4th, the DEW Construction team gathered at the Hilton Garden Inn in Lebanon, NH, for our Annual Safety Day. Every team member, spanning from office staff to field workers, gathered to demonstrate their strong support for our field personnel and to enhance their understanding of our safety practices.
This event highlights our shared commitment to ensuring that everyone returns home to their families safely every day. It also offered a valuable chance to connect with colleagues from different regions. The morning session included updates from our leadership team and department heads, while the afternoon was dedicated to in-depth safety discussions and learning opportunities.
Safety Day Highlights:
Safety Day included a series of insightful presentations and demonstrations from our guest speakers:
- Brian Stevens, Vice President of Contractors Risk Management (CRM), provided an overview of their inspections and observations over the past year on our sites. He discussed what we are doing well and areas we could learn from in the future. In addition to regular site inspections, CRM also provides regular training to our employees throughout the year.
- Robert Dabrowski, Safety & Health Consultant from Project WorkSAFE, Vermont Department of Labor, discussed the importance of ergonomics by fitting job tasks to the worker, not the worker to the job tasks. His presentation highlighted practical strategies to reduce strain and injury, ensuring our team can work more comfortably and efficiently both in the office and the field.
- David May, Occupational Safety & Health Consultant from Project WorkSAFE, Vermont Department of Labor, spoke about Basic Electrical Safety, providing essential tips to keep our team safe around electrical hazards as well as general safety on site.
- Giovanni Fabra, Hilti Regional Manager, shared his expertise on Powder Actuated Tools. His demonstration highlighted the proper use and safety measures for these tools, which are essential for many of our field employees. Gio works closely with DEW, providing field support and specialty tools from Hilti to ensure jobs are completed safely and with top quality in mind.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our guest speakers for sharing their valuable insights and experiences. Their contributions have significantly enhanced our team’s awareness and understanding of potential hazards and how to mitigate them.
At DEW, Safety is a Way of Life. Our safety-first culture is deeply ingrained in everything we do. Safety isn’t just a checklist; it’s a fundamental aspect of our operations, woven into every project regardless of its scale. It is a key component that ensures the well-being of our team, fostering an environment where everyone can excel. Our team members regularly participate in safety training sessions to stay updated on the latest protocols and practices. Together, we are committed to building a stronger, safer industry.
