Superintendent Fred Kilar is DEW’s 2011 Safety Superintendent of the Year. Many of you have not met Fred as his workload has primarily been in New Hampshire. He’s been with DEW for a few years and has distinguished himself when it comes to safety excellence. He was nominated by Rick Davis and Gordon Newman.

“He’s been with DEW two years plus. I have worked with him for three weeks and he is spot on in everything related to safety – unbelievably safety oriented. I’ve learned a few things I didn’t know about safety in three weeks.” – Rick
Let’s discuss Fred’s ‘trial by fire’. After completing the Advance Transit project, Fred took on the Cleveland-Rudman project in Concord. It was located in a government building and one of the occupants is Federal OSHA. Basically, OSHA was in and around Fred’s job every day. He got us through this project scot-free. Not only that but the government’s contracting officer, Donna Maffeo wrote this in her performance evaluation of the project.
“On site coordination was superior due in large part to DEW providing s highly experienced super that maintained very diligent records and fastidiously reemphasized safety and tenant satisfaction. DEW even took proactive steps of contacting OSHA directly to verify their plans met with recent guidance changes. Not a single professional conduct complaint was received despite having a crew of 30+ electricians, 8 pipefitters, 4 control contractors, paving crews, surveyors and numerous specialties working in occupied areas. The professional conduct of the crew is a direct reflection on the superintendent’s morning safety/quality/ conduct meetings.”
Thus, high marks from DEW employees and from a client support the SHARP Team’s selection.
Fred lives in New London, NH with his wife Linda and children Geoffrey and Jennifer.
Fred was presented with a commemorative DEW jacket, $100 cash and his name has been added to our Safety Superintendent of the Year plaque.
