Award-winning arts facility boasts a modern design and a performance-quality auditorium.
The Winston Prouty School, a single-story brick veneer school built in the 1960s, lacked acoustical advancements and recital space necessary to meet the music training needs of students. The school launched a campaign to secure funding for its school building improvement plan. In 2017, the BMC hired DEW to renovate 8,300 sf of the existing building, construct a 2,100 sf addition, and build a new stand-alone performance center. Improvements to the existing building, with the goal of improving acoustics, included new sound-insulated gypsum wall framing and modifications and augmentation of the HVAC system. The addition to the existing school added a new entry lobby with aluminum-framed storefront glazing. The new light-filled Music Center includes a recital room with a 14-foot ceiling, performance-quality acoustics, and seating for 70. This building received an AGC-VT Best Builder Award.
